The Notebook Story

I made my first notebook, The Serendipity Journal, around 3 years ago, however, my love of notebooks and stationery started way before then.      

Growing up, any shopping trip would end with me admiring the stationery in W H Smith and Woolworths and to this day I cannot walk past a stationery aisle without stopping to take a look.  

I can’t remember when I got my very first notebook but I know that as a teenager I always carried a notebook with me and have done ever since.   They are full of my thoughts, dreams, lists, ideas and song lyrics, but that’s a story for another day!  Although I embrace today’s technology there is just something special about writing in a notebook and putting pen to paper.      

So how did I come to make my own?   For those of you that know me, know that I am very sensitive to light.   I don’t go anywhere without my sunglasses, even on cloudy days, and I find the glare of white paper and dark lines too harsh for my eyes – I even write in coloured ink too.  I also have large handwriting and find some of the spaces between lines in some notebooks too small.  

I wanted to create something special, something that wasn’t just white inside, or pretty on the outside, but something that was colourful and beautiful on the inside too – something that I would really enjoy using and that would make me smile as well.  

The fabric on the covers give a wonderful texture and feeling of warmth and the spiral binding allows the notebook to open out fully.   The inside pages are made with A5 or A6 80gsm FSC certified  cream, or coloured paper (white is available on request), with a variety of plain pages, lines, dotted lines or dot grids that have a good spacing between them.   They are also a lot thicker than a standard notebook.  

I am so very proud of my notebooks and love using them.   They take a long time to make but they really are handmade with love.
